This year saw us working hard to solidify our organization that was hit quite hard by the pandemic Le Phare was not spared when it came to the general labour shortages affecting the healthcare sector. Our interdisciplinary team mobilized a special committee to help Le Phare stay the course. At the core of the constructive process which ensued was “solidarity” – one of our fundamental values.

Notwithstanding the challenges faced in the past few years, we felt your presence and support for the children and their families. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to continue providing high quality services to 266 families. We are profoundly grateful for your support which has allowed us to strengthen our hospital and community partnerships so that we may better support the families. In addition, our expertise in community pediatric palliative care has made inroads throughout the province. The establishment of a more stable team, along with an increase in funding, have induced a certain calm which has helped us finish off the fiscal year feeling grateful and relieved.

The future at Le Phare looks even brighter as we roll out our 2022-25 strategic plan. We are proud to outline our revised vision: to lead the way in community pediatric palliative care services and ensure that all families, with a child that has a life-shortening illness, have access to these services.

Over the next year, we will be developing several promising projects. We are actively working on enhancing our care and services, as well as increasing our collaborative efforts with hospital and community partners. We will further develop our employer brand, and seek out new public funding opportunities, all while strengthening our ever-important donor relations. Our efforts over the last few years have paved the way for this new phase of development in the organization. We are determined that with the implementation of our strategic plan Le Phare will have a greater impact.

We want to sincerely thank our employees and volunteers, who all work tirelessly day and night, with heart, soul and the utmost in dedication. A big thank you to the families for their trust, to the children for their telling smiles, to the donors and partners for their ever-continuing support, and to the community for its valued involvement and commitment.

2022-2025 STRATEGIC PLAN

This strategic plan, which will guide our actions over the next three years, outlines four main focus areas: an improved access to Le Phare’s services; further development of our expertise in pediatric palliative care; a robust financial plan that will allow us to honour our mission; and being recognized as an employer of choice.

Media Outreach

Le Phare’s raison d’être was in the spotlight during the fall of 2022, all the way up to the holiday season, via the Hand in Hand and Light Up Your Child’s Heart ad campaigns, both provided free of charge by the media. The Hand in Hand campaign aired on television, on the radio and online. The Light Up Your Child’s Heart campaign, which emphasized the importance of play in a pediatric palliative care setting, publicized in December, was featured on TVA Nouvelles, Journal Métro, La Presse, CBC and Global News. These campaigns represent a total value of $463,000. A huge thank you to the media for their support.

Dipsy, Our Mira Fur-Friend

New to the Le Phare family is Dipsy, an emotional-support dog trained by Mira. His handler, Louise L’Hérault, worked very hard to get him used to his new environment at Le Phare. The children and the entire team have all welcomed Dipsy into the family with open arms and hearts. Thank you, Mondou, for funding this wonderful project.

Unveiling of the Enchanted Forest Mural

A large mural, composed of enchanted animals that glow in the dark, now lines the walls of the bedroom hallway. The unveiling took place in the presence of the children and the artists, as well as our volunteers and employees. Thank you to the muralists, Jessica Lauzon and Nadine Samuel, and their associates, for this wonderful and enchanting addition to our centre.

A Letter from Nassima, Yussef’s mother

Yassima v3

Nassima and her son Yussef

My name is Nassima and I’m a mother of four. My son, Yussef, is a little angel, but he is severely disabled and non-verbal. Being a mother of four children, two of whom are sick, brings about its own set of challenges. The biggest challenge is definitely trying to find time for myself, but also time to share with my husband. We have been fortunate enough to receive respite services at home from Le Phare for just over a year now. Le Phare makes me feel safe and gives me peace of mind; I feel supported, which is so reassuring. Knowing that my son is having fun and is being loved by the team from Le Phare makes me especially happy.
– Nassima, Yussef’s mother

Planning Le Phare’s legacy to ensure its continued mission

nathalie-gauvin-v2

Nathalie and her niece Valérie

The first time that I went to visit my niece, Valérie, at Le Phare, I could see in her face that she was doing well. She was receiving so much more than just excellent service; she was being showered with love by the staff and volunteers, who are all so dedicated to their work. For the people at Le Phare, Valérie was their world.

« When I wrote my will, I said to myself, « Le Phare needs to remain accessible. It must continue to exist because it is an essential organization for the children and their families. » Le Phare has the power to change lives. I’m not a millionaire, but my donation will be a link in the chain that helps ensure Le Phare’s future. »
– Nathalie Gauvin, Donor

A Committed Community

Les Lucioles

Founded by Magalie Moreau, neighbour of Le Phare, this creative and determined group of young children has held multiple fundraisers, which allowed them to raise $8,000 for Le Phare. They presented the play « Sucre Alors » at Jean-Duceppe Park, sang in a choir at the Holiday Market as well as wrapped gifts at the Provigo Angus check-out counters. Les Lucioles also spotlighted Le Phare in their appearance on the TVA program Salut Bonjour. Thank you!

Le Phare employee car wash

This successful event, initiated by Le Phare’s maintenance man, Sylvain Lavoie, brought a lot of people out, raising $10,000 for the cause. Everyone was all smiles, from the employees to the volunteers, to the youth from Limo limo, and the other partners who contributed in making the day a great success – definitely one to be reprised! Thank you!

Florian Leprince climbed Mont Aconcagua

Florian Leprince, a 23-year-old mountain climbing aficionado, climbed to the top of Mont Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America. He wanted his accomplishment to help others who are facing even more difficult challenges in life. When he neared the summit, and giving up was an option he considered, he drew inspiration from the immense strength of the children at Le Phare to push through. His 3-week expedition, climbing a total of 6,960 metres, generated $12,500 in donations for Le Phare. Thank you!

Sollio Challenge

On August 20, the Sollio Challenge and Uniag Cooperative Summer Festival took place, with a special edition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Sollio Group, the largest agricultural cooperative in Canada, which is also comprised of the employees from the network, member producers and their families. Despite the sweltering 30 degrees Celcius heat, the sporting event was a great success, raising $33,000 for Le Phare. Thank you!
